Workplace Violence Is On The Rise…

  • According to Pinkerton’s Seventh Annual Survey of Fortune 1000 corporate security professionals, workplace violence is the top security concern to the largest U.S. corporations. Pinkerton, the nation’s largest security services company, reported that violence in the workplace costs employers 36 $billion annually and result in three deaths daily plus thousands of injuries each year. In addition, concerns about Internet and network security jumped to second in 2000 from seventh in 1999.
  • Homicide is the No. 2 cause of fatal workplace injury in the U.S. – and the leading cause of work-related death for women.
  • About 80 percent of women murdered at work are victim of someone other than their current or ex-spouses or partners.
  • More than a quarter of a million women are beaten, raped or violently assaulted on the job annually.
  • In the past decade the number of individuals who have killed their supervisors has doubled.
